Taking action is a huge part of the Sunnybrook curriculum. It is important for our students to be socially responsible. Over the past month, SBS has been contributing to our local community in a variety of ways. Our community came together to donate items in the Holiday Helper Adoptive Family Program. The community donated many items to a single mother of three boys and hopefully their Christmas will be a little brighter this year.
Sunnybrook also donated 42 boxes of food to the Thorncliffe Food Bank. The Kids Can Too group in our school organized the special event which happens every year the day after our winter concert. While the food is being boxed up, the other students create Christmas cards for a local Senior Retirement Home to hopefully spread some joy to others. The students did a great job of organizing this year.
Also, Nathan (GR 4) and his brother Evan (SK) have initiated for the third year in a row – a Toy Drive to toy mountain. To date SBS has donated 244 toys!!
The school has allocated a bulletin board in the school to display the actions which have happened in the school either from a personal, class, an SPA or a school wide initiated action. We distinguish if the action is for our local community, our school community or the global community. This is a great way to keep track of what we accomplished so far.
